CHRISTIAN STUDIES 6TH - 12TH

Pray and then read Isaiah 40:28-31. Read several times if you want! Then, read the commentary and complete the reflection in complete sentences. Enjoy your time in God's Word and may you choose to allow the Holy Spirit to speak to you today. Much Love, precious people! <3

Have you not known?
Have you not heard?
The everlasting God, the Lord,
The Creator of the ends of the earth,
Neither faints nor is weary.
His understanding is unsearchable.
29 He gives power to the weak,
And to those who have no might He increases strength.
30 Even the youths shall faint and be weary,
And the young men shall utterly fall,
31 But those who wait on the Lord
Shall renew their strength;
They shall mount up with wings like eagles,
They shall run and not be weary,
They shall walk and not faint.

Commentary: Neither faints nor is weary. God was not too weak to act on their behalf, nor was fatigue an obstacle for the Creator in caring for His people …though even the young and strong become tired and fall, the Ancient of Days never does. Unsearchable. To the human mind, God’s wisdom is not fully comprehensible in how He chooses to fulfill His promises to deliver Israel. Paul saw a further illustration of this truth in God’s plan for the final restoration of Israel…Wait on the Lord….There is a general principle here that patient, praying believers are blessed by the Lord with strength in their trials…The Lord also expected His people to be patient and await His coming in glory at the end to fulfill the promises of national deliverance, when believing Israel would become stronger than they had ever been. [The MacArthur Bible Commentary pg. 806-807]

REFLECTION: When you read or memorize scripture does it have meaning to you? Are you stopping to meditate and consider the words and meaning? When we come across familiar Scripture it’s easy to gloss over it without taking time to Dig Deeper. The Word of God is like a deep, rich mine. Sure there is beauty near the surface but as you plumb the depths, you will see and experience a richness and beauty that will take your breath away. Where are you in your journey through the mine?

6TH-12TH CHRISTIAN STUDIES

PRAY, READ I JOHN 2:1-29, AND ANSWER THE FOLLOWING QUESTIONS AS WE REFLECT AND LISTEN TO THE LORD GUIDE US.

Answer in complete sentences.

#1, 7, 11,12 ARE ANSWERED IN COMPLETE SENTENCES.  PLEASE FOLLOW THIS EXAMPLE TO ANSWER ALL QUESTIONS.

1. According to the Bible, what is the punishment for sin? EXAMPLE OF HOW TO ANSWER IN A COMPLETE SENTENCE:  According to the Bible, death is the punishment for sin.

2. What does it mean to say Jesus “defends” us before God?

3. Do we need to perfectly follow God’s rules to show we love Him?

4. According to John, what does it mean if we don’t even try?

5. When you think about what Jesus did for us so that we can live forever with God, how does it make you feel?

HOW CAN WE APPLY THIS TRUTH TO OUR LIVES?  Pick something to sacrifice for someone else’s sake. Some examples:  Give up phone/computer time to wash dishes, let a sibling pick a movie, use your allowance to give to someone in need.

6. John says he is writing a new command that is also a very old command. What is it?

7. Why were the Israelites given so many rules about what to eat and what to wear? ANSWER: The Israelites were given so many rules so they would know they were different than their neighbors—that they were “set apart” for God.

8. What does the world “holy” mean?

9. Who called Himself “the Light of the World”?

10. Aren’t you glad you don’t have to follow 900 different rules? But sometimes, isn’t it easier to follow a rule like “don’t use bad words” than to actually be kind to someone you really don’t like? Do you see why sometimes people actually prefer the old kind of rules to the new rule about love?

11. What is love according to the world? Love to the world is a feeling that comes and goes.

12. What is love according to the Bible? Love according to the Bible is a choice. A choice to make something or someone more important than other things.

13. To follow Jesus is to choose…what?

14. What is the opposite of true teaching?

15. Which kind of love do you think the world needs more of right now? The “feeling” love? Or the “choosing” love?

16. Think of a way you could make someone else feel more important in your life.
